Overactive Bladder

There are over 50 million OAB patients in the USA alone and over 200 million worldwide. The market for drugs in this area reached $4 billion in 2008. The mainstay of current therapies for OAB is the anti muscarinic class of drugs, however, these compounds have a poor side-effect profile and there is a clear need for novel therapeutic agents to treat OAB.

Xention’s clinical development compound in OAB, XEN-D0501, is an antagonist of the TRPV1 vanilloid receptor which is expressed both in the detrusor and on the afferent pathway. XEN-D0501 has shown promising efficacy in pre-clinical models of overactive bladder and recently completed single ascending dose and multiple ascending dose Phase I studies in volunteers, and further clinical development is underway.
